What is gelato?

Gelato is an Italian-style ice cream that is derived from the Italian word for “frozen”-congelato or gelato.

What’s the difference between gelato and ice cream?

  1. Fat Content: Gelato contains 4-9% fat content compared to ice cream at 14-25%. So in our simple math, you can eat 3 scoops of gelato to equal 1 scoop of ice cream in fat content

  2. Density: While ice cream can consist of up to 50% air, gelato contains 15-20%. Less is definitely more in the case of gelato. 

  3. Temperature: Gelato is eaten at a warmer temperature than ice cream due to its density. When it is scoopable, it’s good to eat!

Does gelato contain dairy?

Yes, it contains milk and cream, while sorbet or sorbetto is dairy-free
