The story behind
Jasmine Creamery
As the founder and owner of Jasmine Creamery, it is often safe to assume that my name would be Jasmine. People express bewilderment on their faces when they find out my name is actually T.C. So why not T.C.'s Creamery you might ask? A business name that represents Southeast Asia felt fitting as many flavors are highlighted from that region. 'Jasmine' is now very much associated with a person's name, that the jasmine flower with its amazing fragrance found in many Southeast Asian countries does not automatically come to mind.
I had been in the food industry for a number of years primarily developing systems for large productions to increase production efficiency while keeping product integrity. When I started having the desire to own a business, however, I quickly realized there was a knowledge gap between knowing how to produce and how to run a business. I felt compelled to go back to school to learn business concepts.
During my last semester in Business Communication class, an Italian classmate did a presentation on gelato and gave out samples. It was so good! My mind was blown away by how fresh her Strawberry Coconut gelato tasted. Although I had never made ice cream or gelato, I thought, "Hmm...this seems doable." The flavors that came to mind to make were flavors I wish were accessible to me in the form of gelato or ice cream in LA. That's when I started testing out durian gelato! As a durian lover, I made it the way I wanted to eat it--packed with a lot of durian.
I hope you enjoy these flavors as much as I do! And if not durian (it's understandable if you disdain the King of Fruits), but other flavors that in some form brings us through a mini-culture tour through Asia (and other nostalgic ingredients that just happen to be good in gelato form).
Cheers,
T.C.
